A chicken is a living animal and nature does what she does best. Mother Nature controls all life.
Blue Star Ranch works hard to ensure you the best selection of the healthiest chickens possible. Even with the BEST of care, Mother Nature is in fact in control of your chickens' health.
We want you to take your healthy chickens home to your coop and we are here to help get you set up and to answer any questions as you are getting started.
Understand that each customer has a different coop and setup process. Remember that there is a "learning curve" if you are brand new to raising chickens. But it's really pretty simple to get started.
A Chicken Farmer's 2 cents:
WHY do we sell live chicks and chickens AS- IS?
When you leave with your new pets to take them home we do not know if your dog played "fetch" with your pet.
Or, your child flushed the chick in the toilet? Or was the temperature off in your coop or brooder? Did a predator attack your chicken? Are you using the correct amount of medicines, parasite products, or de-wormer? Did the bedding in your coop come from a package that contains chemicals or bugs/mites that can make chickens sick? Is there any ventilation and enough airflow in your coop? Did the temperature drop 30-50 degrees at night? Was there a flash flood in your coop and standing water? Were your chickens overhandled?
The fact is: you may not know these things are bad for chickens if you are learning your new hobby
(Yes, all these things can and have happened and customers call me for more FREE CHICKENS)
Here are your choices for care:
1) Buy chickens only and assume all risks of raising them.
2) Purchase chicken replacement insurance special.
3) Order Blue Star Ranch customer service call ($25) or an annual support package. ($50)
4) Pay your local veterinary Doctor about $300 to see your chicken. Then purchase more costly medications.
Most dog and cat vets do not have a working knowledge of raising farm chickens
Somehow there are a few people that do not understand the words "live poultry is sold as is"
So what do "eggperienced" poultry people do when faced with a problem? They understand these facts and simply take care of small problems and injuries but replace chickens that become attacked by predators or severe illnesses.
You can be sure that your Grandparents did not spend $300 to cure a sick Chicken! They simply hatched more to replace the ones that are damaged or become ill.
PEOPLE have changed in the last 60 - 80 years, but chickens are the same agricultural birds
So there you have my 2 cents! from someone that has raised many many thousands of chickens over the years
I don't know if it's the word "as?" or the word "is?" or if placing these two words together that is confusing to some people?
See the description below:
as is
So to sum this up: You can see that raising chickens, all chickens when raised outdoors naturally are subject to Mother Nature & the perils of weather.
It's just that simple and it's a fact!
People that are new to poultry try to "fix" everything and it's understandable. What's my best advice: Do the best you can, keep your chickens well-fed and safe in a proper coop.
